San Diego Zoo: Polar Bear feeding time

At the San Diego Zoo's Polar Bear Plunge, the zookeepers put out a bone, some carrots, and a head of romaine lettuce for the polar bear. Which will the bear go for first?

Approaching...

Frightening off a crow...

And the winner is...the lettuce!

And the bone?

Saving that for a main course.

Heading up the hill with it...

And getting comfy to focus on it.

But that doesn't prevent the bear from wanting some more lettuce later from the hand of a zoo staffer.

The Flower Fields, Carlsbad - ranunculus

At the Flower Fields in Carlsbad the fields were filled with many varieties of ranunculus, examples of which can be seen below.

Orange Ranunculus - the end

Back in February I got my wife some ranunculus and photographed them when they were freshly cut, which I posted here. Then two weeks later (yes, the lasted that long), just before we had to throw them out I used them as a subject again. The results are shown below.
