Chalk it up

Shots from the initial stages of the Pasadena Chalk Festival, earlier today when the artists where still rendering their masterpieces.

I’m trying to get caught up with my blog reading (and viewing). In case you didn’t notice, I just left a comment at your “You do Jimmy” post at your other blog, the one dated May 22nd. (Man, am I behind.) Good shot of the Kimmel stage. Did you make any adjustments for exposure with that and your nighttime shots (like the harbor view images)?

I find that completely relying on the automatic settings for exposures can give a poor image, sometimes producing one that Photoshop can’t fix. The shots with this post of the sidewalk chalk art strike the right balance between the strong sunlight and the shadow areas. Did you underexpose or overexpose, overriding the automatic setting? Or did you meter on a particular area, using it as a midpoint? If you’re shooting on program and getting these results, then don’t “fix” it – it ain’t broke!

    Best,

    Ray

  2. I don't speak "cameraese," but the chalk pics turned out great. I can't believe that art can be made of chalk-at least on pavement. Reminds me of some 3-D photos I've seen that were made on pavement (if you look at it at an angle, it looks 3-D).

Thanks for stopping by my blog.
